Originally, a friend of a friend put their full name and birthdate on their blog. When I told them I found their blog by "googling" them, they acted like they didn't mind that I read it. Subsequently, they took their full name off the blog, and have made suberversive comments regarding a "stalker." Am I a sociopath or just as curious as anybody else?

Nothing wrong with that. Their name wasnt hidden so they were either 1) ignorant or 2) wanted it to be public.

Eitherway, them removing their name was the smart thing to do. Look at it as you helped them. And again, you didnt dig up any info they didnt put up themselves. You didnt post their info either.

Well, if you know the person (and they know you of course) I guess it's fine. But I think its best if you told them that you wanted to look at their blog, might save you some trouble even.

Employers are doing it for potential new hires.

I for one would be very very careful what you put on the web. It can come back to haunt you with work, Friends, colleges etc.
