I know that it is a historically black university, but I just wonder if they don't accept the white applicants, or if there aren't many white applicants? Which do you think it is? And do you think it is appropriate to call and ask them for those statistics?

Howard University was founded as a Black College because at the time other colleges would not accept blacks. Now any one can go there white or black but unfortunately not very many whites would feel comfortable being outnumbered by blacks. I guess they don't want to know what black people have gone through in this country for over 200 years.
It would be appropriate to call and ask them only if you are seriously considering going there.

I'd venture to say that they do not get a lot of white applicants. By law, they must accept a white student if they choose to attend the school and qualify to go there. I think you can legally ask for statistics too.

They can't discriminate, but maybe white students don't feel comfortable applying, or feel that it's "not as good" because it's black. It could be any number of reasons.

All races are accepted at this time, but because it has historical meaning to the African American community, the student body continues to be primarily of African American descent. (approximately 88% currently).

It was founded by "Freedmen's Bureau, to provide education for newly emancipated slaves".

Many whites don't apply because it's a black college. YOu have to feel comfortable to surrounded by blacks all the time and subjected to black culture. YOu simply can't be a racist and go there.

A university by the black people, of the black people and for the black people. Obama gives the yearly address, telling them what they already know....that he is the greatest leader ever in the history of the world.
