I don't know if it is a turtle or a tortise, i cant even find a picture of its species...

its small about the size of your palm, it has a domed shell with a long yellow ridge in the middle, its color varies from yellow to brownish black, it has long arms and tiny claws, its tail is small and skinny, it has big eyes and a beak like mouth, its head and legs are grey and it has a dim yellow stripe behind each eye. I found it floating in my pool and i would like to keep it, please offer any information you can!!!!

It kind of sounds like a slider of some sort...maybe a yellow eared slider. If it were swimming in your pool it probably is...look that up to see if the picture matches.

Please don't put that animal back into the water!!!!! I don't know how that little guy got into your pool but don't put it back. That is a tortoise (hinged shell, no webbing between toes). That is a land animal. You may have very well saved it's life. It looks kind of like an ornate box turtle. I cant really tell the pics are a little dark. Try feeding it some fresh berries or veggies (no lettuce). Give it a little dish of water that is big enough for it to get in to but is still shallow. If you have any better pics you can email them to me. I will help you figure out exactly what it is and the sex. Email is in my profile. Hope this helps!

That is a box turtle (actually a box "tortoise") and probably accidentally fell in the pool. It is a land dweller, not a water turtle. They can make good pets, but need some special heating and lighting, a variety of foods, and a large area to exercise. Check out www.anapsid.org for detailed care. :)

it sounds a little lie a loggerhead or snapping turtle, to find out for sure you can take it to a pet store or to the game wardens office to have them identify the species. if it is a snapping turtle you need to let it go near a pond before you get hurt by it. it has enough power in its beak like mouth to cut off your fingers in one quick snap, hence the name snapping turtle.

yellow eared slider turtle. it's probably not a good idea to keep it in your pool. turtles need a big tank. resting rock. water filter. rocks. pellets(food). and lots of time. you need to provide it with a variety of food. they eat vegetables and fruit in addition to the pellets. anyway... lucky you. i'd keep it :D turltes are awesome!

sounds to me like some kind of box turtle or teripan,as the old timers called them.i can,t advise you further as to it,s specific name, but i would strongly advise you to turn it loose and let it go. box turtles may live a long time and then suddenly die. i,ve quit trying to keep them myself,

You should've posted a picture for us. It sounds like a turtle hatchling though. You should not try to keep it. Just let it live on its own.
