It seems that way, but only because the germans have 2 really good cars: Mercedes benz amd porche.
The quality of Audi, BMW, and VW is considerably worse than the average american car.

notice that every buick made is the best in its category.

Id also like to point out that in the 24 hours of lemans, no german modified production car has ever beaten an american production car, such as the Corvette or Viper. They always enter supercars that dont share producton parts with the real cars.
the german cars cant even enter the categories that the viper and corvette are in. They arent allowed.

BTW, Japanese cars don't stand up to German type driving either and are looked down on there for that. But we wouldn't know about that... Insular mentalities...

becuase your politicians gave the industry tax breaks, limited foreign imports, and relieved them of the responsibility to reduce exhaust emissions since the 60s - it was easy for the US industry to make low quality cars and still have a guaranteed market with little competition.
unfortunately this has resulted in lower quality cars in the present day, and the germans and japanese have spent all that time making better and cleaner vehicles at lower cost.

American cars break down easily because all they care about is making them. Japanese cars perform better than American cars too. In general European cars are about perfection (including German cars too).
