His Master's Voice. The logo of a dog listening to a gramaphone is supposed to be a dog listening to "his master's voice".

HMV used to be a recording company, as well as a retail store, the logo was a dog looking into the trumpet of a wind-up record player, with the catch phrase "His Masters Voice" then shortened to HMV, thats where it came from.
