Hi...I have a grand piano myself.

You can do either but make sure that you have coasters under the feet of the piano. Ours are square and look like glass. If you don't do this, it will ruin your floor b/c of the weight of the piano. It helps to spread out and distribute the weight a bit.

The carpet is likely to mute (or absorb) the sound more than the hardwood floor, but the piano may cause irreparable damage to the hardwood floor.

I have mine on carpet. Glad to hear someone else enjoys music and the joy of owning a grand piano :)

Strongly suggest coasters on wool rug. Protects the rug and the legs of the panio and the floor under all that.

I think it would be better to be on a wool area rug.
