This is what my daughter is going through from surgery gone wrong. She isn't paralyzed, but she had surgery about 6 years ago to have her tubes tied because she didn't want any more children.
After going through pain for several months, she went to the ER. She just found out Thursday that the surgeon did not do the procedure he said he was going to do. Instead of burning the area that was supposed to be burnt and have her tubes tied, he used clamps instead to close everything.
The clamps have came undone, and scrapping her insides. She will know in a couple of days when she'll go into surgery to correct this.
Our family wants her to sue this doctor's pants off. But, she is in so much pain and wants to get back to normal first. Since she is 26 years old, I don't think I can sue the doctor for her but, she is old enough to decide for herself.

If the surgeon did not warn you of the paralysed consequence before the surgery, you can sue him for that! He cant simply passed it off by saying its a mistake! What happens if by mistake you were dead? Go after him and sue him for compensation especially if you were having a job that paid well before the surgery.....Get a good lawyer who's ever willing to fight your case...dont let the surgeon off easily to teach him a lesson to be more careful to other patients in future! Dont worry about the expenses, your lawyer who's willing to take up the case will know the percentage of the chances of winning and you can pay him off with the compensation you will get if you win the case later.
I'm sure your friends might have advised you like I did too!

I would cry the whole night and so on until I get a hold of myself that I am nvr gonna be the same again. I would investigate if the doctor is legal. My family will be sad for me also but in the other hand they will say "i told u so". I think my bff will stay by my side. My other friends hmm.. Not so sure but I have some good & concern friends tho.

I would sue his a** off, until I owned everything he already has and everything he will ever get. Nah, I would just sue his insurance company. People live with paralysis, so I suppose I could to. My family would be overprotective and feel sorry for me for a while, then it would be as normal as possible after that. The only thing different would be that we would be rich, lol.

well my surgery went really wrong.. thank god it wasnt a really serious surgery that could paralsye me .. i had breast cancer or so i was told.. i dont know maybe i still do...went in to get it cut out. doctor screwed up and took some muscle tissue or something of that nature out .. anyways . the two knots which they said had to come out or still in me.. i have a deformed breast that sinks in like a volcano right in the center and have to hide it from everyone with padded bras.. embarrasing as ever.. im ashamed of it . and wont be with my husband without a bra on or a shirt on to hide it... what did i do to the doctor nothing... went to a lawyer and well he didnt want to take the case... so i did nothing and i live with this everyday ...like i said im thankful its not more serious... if it were i dont know what i would do...just really think all those people that want to become doctors need to go back to the reality of being one in order to help people and learn for the right reason .. dont do it just for the money.. money only makes for all the bad doctors we have today....

I would start praying like nutso. Hopefully, so would my family. As to the doctor... well, what did they do? Were they negligent, or did they make a mistake, or what? Presumably, the doctor's conscience would probably provide enough "punishment" without any interference from me. Beyond that, I think I would have to come to forgive him/her - what's the point of living out your life, paralyzed or not, if you're wallowing in bitterness and blame?

I would find a good lawyer and sue the chit out of the quack!!!!!! I would find some kind of program that would help me find out what I can do. I wouldn't just sit or lay there feeling sorry for myself. Look at Christopher Reeve. He was paralyzed from the neck down and he didn't give up. Good luck.

Well, it would depend on whether or not the doctor was being negligent or careless. There is a such thing as just a mistake, and innocent mistakes can have disastrous consquences. This is one of the MANY reasons why I am not a surgeon.

First I'd give that surgeon a piece of my mind. Then I'd consult an attorney and sue him for every single penny he has. No god damn bastard is going to leave me paralyzed! That's why you need to get information and see if he has a diploma before letting him cut you open.
