Everyone around me has all these gadgets and look so very important! Can you tell me what you think are the most essential and fun. I already have a cell phone. :-) I'm 31 and have little techy knowledge.

this question was meant to be light and fluffy! Many of you missed the point. The media makes gadgets look cool. Obviously, you don't need an ipod to be cool. Let me rephrase.....need necessary gadget ideas.

There are many young people who can not live without their iPod.The only essential "gadgets" I think one needs are a way to listen to music, check out videos/games/movies/tvshows, check your email, answer and make phone calls.

You have the cell phone so all you really need now is a portable gadget that will let you do what your cell phone can't. The three coolest and best gadgets to choose from (for these purposes):
Either a)the new iPod with 30GB or 60GB ($299-399) or
b)PSP ($199) or
c)Sony VAIO TX series ultra-light laptop computer ($2200)

I guess I am uncool too! I have a cell phone and CD player/satellite radio in car, everything else is just a gadget that I don't find necessary. Maybe we are the cool ones because we don't spend money on electronic crap and pay our bills and don't have to buy batteries or charge extra stuff. Maybe even worry about extra things we might lose.

Not counting the gadgets I have at home (desktop, DVD player, etc etc), the gadgets I usually carry around with me are:

Cell Phone--not a fancy one with a keyboard on it, just numbers. I use it to make and receive phone calls. That's it.

Handheld data storage device--it's very elegant-looking, and it folds open and shut. In it, I keep such things as names and addresses of friends & associates. There's also a special area to store data "on the fly". If I get a sudden idea, I open the device to that area, and (using a specially-designed stylus, which contains a unique graphite compound) record my idea. In other words, it's a pad and a pencil.

Outboard Chronometer Device--manufactured by Casio, this device allows me to keep very accurate track of such things as the time of day, as well as other useful bits of information. Some day, I hope I can afford an Outboard Chronometer Device manufactured by Rolex.

As you can see, I practically live on the Starship Enterprise.

It's not so much the "gadget" ... it's what you do with it! You got a phone, that's all you need. Tape a pair of ear-bud headphones to it. Use(or just hold) the phone with both thumbs and punch at it *constantly*. Then get into a loud arguement while holding the phone to your head. Use lots of curse words. Then make up using the phrase "are we cool?" Then say "nothin' but love for ya'". THEN.. well then you *are* just cool as can be.

It doesn't matter who your with or who you are trying to impress, you should know that you are cool. Don't ever let anyone make you feel less than you are because they know something that you don't. Besides there are no gadgets that can make you cooler than you are. As long as you know yourself and love yourself you will know how cool you are and it will out shine all of your concerns. Just relax and be yourself and that is the coolest gadget you can possess.

The problem here is one of superficiality. What a person has does not make them "cool" or any other adjective one might choose. Very few of us choose our friends because of their little technical toys. We choose our friends because we like their personality. This is the oldest misconception in the book; what someone has, whether "the most toys" or anything else does not make them anything.
Your time would be better spent on learning about your world. People will be far more impressed with your overall knowledge about your world and your genuine interest in them as people than if you have the latest tech toys.

You're stuck...you need to find some kind of fulfillingness in your life besides gadgets...and quit worrying about being cool. Geeze just be! Go out and create for yourself! Become one with the universe! Go to Alaska and be cool! Chill with some Eskimos.

chill. the essence of coolness is not caring what people think of you, being above all that. confidence is 'cool'. gadgets are fun, but don't blow money on stuff you don't need. learn a bit about them and chose stuff YOU want, not stuff you think will make you look cool.

save yourself the dilemma of exposing yourself as a not so techy latter on and don't worry about what other think .if you buy all this things to fit in people will be on to you when they ask ? that you can't answer and if you ask them to program and fix everything for you they will know you are not one of them
