root 87 = root 3 * 29 = root 3 * root 29
3 and 29 are both prime numbers thus thier root is not an exeact number
thus root 89 is not a whole number
by the calculator it is equal to 9.3 rounded to 2 s.f.

Hmmm... lemme see... the sqrt(81) = 9, sqrt(100) = 10... so it must be somewhere between them...

87 - 81 = 6
100-81=19

6/19 is about 1/3...and 1/3 * (10-9) = 1/3 or about 0.33
9 + 0.33 = 9.33

9.33^2 = 87.0489 .. hmmm... 0.0489 too high...
but probably closer than 9.32.. but let's see... 9.32^2 = 86.86... yes... 9.33 is closer... so it is good to 2 decimal places...

Sqrt(87) = 9.33 to 2 decimal places... it is probably more like 9.325.. or a bit higher
