I believe that it is best to choose the answer that you feel is best. For those of us who follow the resolved questions, it is interesting to note exactly what the asker was hoping to find. If the question goes to the voters, then it is simply a matter of what others think. And since anyone can vote on questions, it does not reflect the opinions of the ones who answered the question.
I would say that there are two reasons then. First, to let others who may be interested know what you really wanted to hear. Second, out of consideration for those who have taken the time to respond, you owe it to them to select the best answer.

If you ask a question, it would be appreciated by those who took the time to answer for you to decide. Why let others choose the best answer to your question? That's just lazy and inconsiderate.
