difference between heaven and hell

I heard it put well in this parable.

An fellow was given the opportunity to see the difference between Heaven and Hell. He was shown Hell first. In it there was a huge table filled with all kinds of delicious food-- the most amazing and succulent feast he had ever seen. However everyone sitting around the table was starving and holding their empty stomachs in pain. There was a rule that you had to eat using chopsticks, but the chopsticks that the people were given were 5 feet long-- far too long to for anyone to eat with. Thus they sat there staring at the food, starving and miserable.

When the man was shown Heaven, he saw a very similar situation-- another table piled with a most stunning display of scrumptious food. And again the rule was that one could only eat with chopsticks-- that were also 5 feet long. However, the people around this table were joyful and well fed.

The difference between the two the people sitting around the table in heaven? In heaven the people sitting around were using their chopsticks to feed each other. In hell, they were only trying to use the chopsticks to feed themselves.

The lesson: the difference between heaven and hell is the difference between selflessness and selfishness.

It's kind of not explaining it so well but that is a good story. The moral isn't that it's without God's love, the moral is that hell is a place of selfishness where people who are so intent on getting what they want don't ever get it but in heaven when they help each other they can achieve whatever they want so long as they work together. If hell was that easy I wouldn't mind that I would just feed the other people.

Hugo Reyes said it all (pick his answer). Heaven and hell are simply what we make of our lives, and what we make for the lives of others.

The presence and absence of God, respectfully. It's that simple. Heaven is wonderful because God is good and God is there. Hell is unspeakably horrible because God is not there and without God there is nothing good...no comfort, no relief...nothing good.

heaven is love and peace...your family are with you...God is with you.

hell is the absence of God...there is no love...no peace...no happiness....there is nothing.
