Given that 13% of the oil the US imports daily comes form Venezuala, it is an economic threat more than a political or military one.

On the flip side, 50% of Venezuela's income depends on US buying that same oil - if the US cut back the economy there would crumble faster than house of cards.

I have a forum and one of the members is a native of and living in Venezuela. The political climate there is a lot of noise - the second the US cut the money, the current government would be tossed out in a VERY bloody revolt. The military there is actually caught in the middle - the current dictator has key positions controled by puppets, but the arms are primarily Russian but paid for with US money!

Venezuela poses no threat to the United States..

I totally agree with Dd.

The "threat" to the US is that the Venezuelan government does not have a puppet regime going by the whims of the US (& Isreal) and their president is not afriad of the US.

Venezuela is also not dependent on the US, rather the other way round, whereby the US needs their oil.

To summarize, the US government based on the above, would see this country as a threat.

Venezuela only poses a small economic risk it they decided to sell thier oil to someone else it would just go on the World market and be replaced from elsewhere. The United States has a bit of a history in this part of the World and owes latin america some consideration. Let them vent their rage and when they are ready talk to them thru diplomacy.

Unfortunately some people believe the propaganda they are subjected to, and never bother to research the Honorable Hugo Chavez.

The USA has lost it's credibility, and is losing it's stranglehold on the rest of the world.
Hugo Chavez is a clear example of what can be achieved when countries disregard their orders from Washington:-
Over 17 million people now have access to free health care and medicines for the first time.
Over 1 million people taught to read and write.
Participation encouraged for all Venezuelans in the formation, implementation, and operation of their democracy.
Venezuela has become truly, a democracy of the people, by the people and for the people, after years of US intervention and suppression.

But of course the people in power in the USA have labeled Chavez a terrorist, communist, dictator, etc. etc.

Around the world, whenever an alternative political systems have emerged they have been brutally crushed, or isolated by our ruling elites for what they call "the threat of a good example"

Yes in that it is part of a hegemony of small, independently insignificant countries like North Korea, Iran and Venezuela. We need to put more of our military budget into star wars so that even with a 50% success rate (as current) we have enough launchers that we have excess to needs.

And we have to secure our borders, on the ground, sea and air.

Is that you Pat Robertson? Could the U.S. be a threat to Venezuela? Maybe we should we just go down there and "take him out", eh Pat? We'll show the world what our "Christian Religion" is all about.

I generally think Chavez is a clown, but this time I support him for telling the US to butt out of interfering wherever they like. The US has been and is trying to exert influence in the internal policies of Venezuela.

It is considered a threat only because it does not give it's oil to America and in that it's foreign policy is Anti-American foreign policy.

America tried to remove Hugo Chavez for this but did not succeed. So much for talking about democracy. It blames a country like Syria for terrorism and for trying to choose the president in Lebanon and then acts pretty much in a similar manner.
