Good question. Yes, I think that facetiousness comes off as glib and superior. Occasionally, it works as a conversational gambit, and it can lighten up heavy discourse. But as a steady diet it's rather like sarcasm, simply exhausting and unconstructive.
You see a lot of it on boards like this. And when you can't read a person, because they aren't physically present, both facetiousness and sarcasm are simply nonproductive.
