Blyth Of Nottinghamshire Knights Errant Royal Society
(B.o.n.k.e.r.s.)
Noble folk Invited are to gather on The 5th. Day of November 2005 AD
Rules of Engagement for the Noble Tournament of Conkers
All Conkers and strings are supplied by the B.o.n.k.e.r.s. conkers games section (unless you come from the south then perhaps you fetch your own) {Posh Gits!}
Strings must not be knotted further (folk from Barnsley will feel a sense of relief here as they don’t know how to tie knots anyway, not in a bow that is) anyone found tampering with their string or nuts (conkers) will be disqualified and asked to leave the field of play
The game will commence with a shout “Oi you go first”
A conker with string attached can be held in either hand ,Left or right depending on the handedness of the player if not sure please ask a steward who will mark your hand for you L for Left R for Right, this might lead to a little confusion you might ask ? Is it marked from the steward’s position or the player’s? We have to admit at this moment of time” THE JURY IS OUT”
A distance of no less than 8 inches of string must be between knuckle and nut. (Chestnut)
Each player then takes alternate strikes at the opponent’s conker. (not nut or nuts)
Each attempted strike must be clearly aimed at the nut (chestnut), no deliberate miss hits.
The game will be decided once the opponent’s nut (conker) is smashed.
If a small piece of nut or skin (conker not human) is remaining, it shall be judged out, unless big enough to mount an attack.
If both nuts smash at the same time then the match shall be replayed using replacement nuts (conkers)
Any nut being knocked from the string, but not smashing may be re-threaded and the game continued.
A player causing a knotting of the strings (a snag) will be noted, three snags and your out.
If a game lasts for more than five minutes then play will halt and the 5 minute rule will come into effect (every one else gets on a chair and shouts boring nutters)
The winner on the night will be crowned …his/her name… followed by THE CONKERER (unless named bill)

Yeah, the other guys are right about it being a game. I used to play conkers every year when I was at primary school! Everyone wanted to have the champion conker and we'd do all kinds of things to try and strengthen our conkers - bake them in the oven, soak them in vinegar.....oh, the simple joys of childhood!

It is game played with the seeds of horse chestnut trees - conkers- they are brown about 3-4cms in diameter. A hole is made through the middle and string is threaded through. Participants then compete to see if they can bash to pieces their opponents conker.Pointless, but has been enjoyed in uk for millenia.
