I live in a Puerto Rican community and I can tell you that most do speak both languages well but the harsh truth is not all ARE ABLE TO learn learn two languages ( I know I could never do it). What happens is those kids who have less linguistic skills only learn Spanish, or speak English very poorly and can't write it at all. Bi-lingual education is setting perfectly intelligent people up for failure in life. If you can't speak English you cannot compete and win in America. You will be cleaning toilets and pushing a broom your whole life. And that stinks. Liberals are killing people with their kindness.

Um, because our national language is English?
People who live here should speak English, like the rest of us. If they don't they are severly handicapped in conversation. This could even lead to miscommunication in emergencies. How do you communicate with the English speaking masses here, if you do not know English?
If I were ever to move out of the country, say France or Sweden, I would definatly learn the language. At least enough to communicate with the people in their language, since English isn't always spoken there.
Nobody in North America is going to put up with everything being displayed of recorded in a native language. English is spoken here, so English should be learned before coming over here!

You're right but the it's the market that drives spanish into the mainstream. I hate that everything is not in American English only but if I was running a business or selling a product you better believe that I would do my best to include the hispanic population. They're huge. I can about guarantee the competition would be doing it.

Sounds pretty narrow-minded to me. Hispanics are rapidly becoming the second largest component of our society. Are we too stupid and/or too bigoted to welcome them and learn to converse with them in their native language? All over the world, people speak two or more languages, and one of them is usually English (often better English than many Americans speak).

This is the cost of living in a multi-cultural society. Just relax and get used to it as it will not go away.
