Unfortunately the mouth tends to heal slower than most other parts of the body, due in part to moisture and the constant presence of bacteria. The best (and least painful) remedy is lightly swishing warm salt water around the affected area maybe two to three times daily. In extreme cases sometimes its beneficial to dissolve an aspirin in water and dab it lightly on the affected area ( but consult your physician first to determine if you have a sensitivity to aspirin or some other condition that would preclude its use).

I would agree with Captain S, although I have never heard of disolving a aspirin in water for this purpose. In addition to a salt water swish (using about 1 tsp/5ml of salt added to about 8 oz/240 ml of warm water) you might consider using hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash to rinse the area. Although you can use this undiluted, it is less irritating it you dilute it with 1/2 water. You can alternate the salt water swish and peroxide, doing both several times a day. Neosporin can be used inside of the mouth, but it is best if you check with your doctor before doing so. I would avoid using alcohol based mouth washes as they will actually kill some of the living tissues and may delay healing. Watch out for thrush...if you are rinsing your mouth frequently you may be killing off too many of the good bacteria, allowing a yeast infection to develop. Consider using Oral Gel for pain. You should follow up with your doctor, particularly if the cut is deep and recent...he may be able to close it. Usually, however, cuts inside of the mouth are left open to heal, to reduce the chance of infection. Good luck.
