If you mean that if a squared + b squared = c squared you got a right triangle (the pythagorean theorem) it was officially discovered/discussed by pythagoras and the mystical society he was in. However, WAY before pythagoras, the babylonians, I believe, had a stone with a lot of triples that were of that form. So it's been around for a long time...
