I have a Toshiba.
Its model is a satellite.
It has wifi, three usb connector spots
dsl/phone line connectivity
cd burner
dvd player/ cd player
... many good things
and when i asked it was great for a student (great batt. life)
mine was 1100 plus i got rebates because i purchased it from best buy.
i recommend it

Well, I'll highly recommend the Macbook.
It matches the criteria you're looking for. Personally, I feel that thought Sony makes good products, they are more expensive compared to the Mac. HP makes quality products to but the Mac is certainly superior. Dells are good but quite inferior build to the Macs. One question you should ask yourself is this: What is the average lifetime of a PC to a Mac?
Whatever you do choose, buy it and have absolutely no regrets. I'm sure you'll love it. Happy buying.

I have 2 sony vaio computers and they are both great. You can get a sony vaio for about 1200. Hp and toshiba make good laptops too.

Take a look at the Apple laptop series.
The software is far better integrated within the O/S,
the O/S is more robust and the interfaces are easier
to use.
Macs made their name and fame with video editing
and video cameras come standardly with them.
