Accounting is going to be a career that you learn the tips and tricks of and basically that's that. There will be new laws, rules and regulations to learn along the way. There are a myriad of areas you can go into from there - specializing in taxes, corporate accounting, etc...
Automotive tech - you will learn the basic skills and from there continue to learn as the technology changes. If you get your certifications, and you are fortunate enough to land a good, stable job at a dealership, you can do well.
It really comes down to what you are more passionate about. I actually recruit mechanics, and used to work for UTI. Some of these people claim that "turning wrenches" is something that they love, and would never do anything else. I have also known people in accounting who have been bored to tears.
Bottom line - there are more opportunities and better earning potential in general for accountants.

Wow. I would think that those two professions are almost polar opposites. The main thing you'd want to consider is working conditions. Accountants are typically in climate controlled working areas. Auto Techs sometimes aren't. That might depend on where you live and where you work. Accountants come home clean. Auto Techs do not. It's probably easier to find side work as an Auto Tech but that's not always a good thing. Either way you'll really find out who your friends are.

I would think that this could be a pretty easy decision for you. It would be different if you asked if you should be an accountant or a banker or an automotive technician or a diesel mechanic. Good luck and assuming you're still young you can always do one and then do the other later. You don't need to decide your whole life today.

People need cars and they're always breaking down or requiring maintenance. As an automotive technician you will always be able to find a job. Also if you have the space and the tools you can always earn extra money by working on the side. You can get an auto tech certification at a 2 year school. Accountant needs 4 years of college and then continuous education if you get certified as a CPA, CMA, etc.. You do get to work in an office (good or bad) Accounting can be pretty repititive....

I think an accountant would have fewer tools to buy over his/her lifetime. Both careers offer plenty of ways to make money on the side. An automotive technician can make a good living if they are really good. I'm pretty sure a mediocre account can make their way in the world. Mechanics also get to do some work outside at times, a boon for those nice days where you would be otherwise stuck in an office all day. Both career choices require training to remain current, and hopefully the company pays for that training. An accountant will almost never have dirty hands, unless they are shady...

Shirt and tie inside in the climate controlled office,40 hour work week Health and medical paid by the company. Or Technician, Hot, cold just like outside, sore back, greasy hands, working Saturdays, pay for uniforms & health insurance. Choice should be clear? Technicians are not protected by Unions and cannot collective bargian for benefits. Manufactures keep paying less and less for warranty repair.

it al depends on how you want to work, are you a person that likes to work with his hands, then i would suggest the technician,or are you rather fond of sitting at a desk, and work with your head..
prolly an accountant earns a better keep than a technician..u might want that be taken into considiration.
do you want to be employed or self-employed..,might wanne think that over too..,perhaps think about how much skill you have already from both proffesions...
anyway choose wisely ,my friend..,some decisions can make a world of diffrence..
