It's possible that they could perceive politeness as weakness, but you can certainly be polite and strong at the same time.

Polite or nice? I'm not sure they are the same thing. When I think of polite things like political correctness and manners come to mind, which does not necessarily mean you're a nice person that could get taken advantage of, it just means you know how to conduct yourself in public and/or around others; but I didn't look up the definitions of each before I typed this answer, so they may, in fact, be synonymous.

absolutely!! a lot of people are just there to take advantage of the "do gooders" and here we sit smiling and being polite when we would really like to say something but.... we are polite.

sometimes being polite is HARD TO DO... sorry if I lose it (eventually I know I will and will feel the need to apologize)

Yes, I feel some will and can take advantage of kindness. It has happened to me many times over, but I will continue to strive for all to remember me as the lady with a loving heart for all mankind. Everyone deserves a smile from me, or just a hello. God Bless

Yes, being too polite means that people can and will take advantage, but you know what, sometimes you have to say, that's okay, and maybe they'll learn from example

I believe that being loving to others does not always mean being "polite". Allowing someone to take advantage of you is not healthy for either them or you and you are not being kind to allow it. Love comes from a position of strength. The best thing you can do for everyone is to maintain healthy boundries. You cannot always oblige, but you can always speak obligingly.

What other people do never determines what I do. So, just because someone else might take advantage will not deter me from being polite.

In some cases yes but most people appreciate politeness while others see it as a weakness. You just have to be intelligent enough to tell when somebody is trying to get one over on you.

Hope that helped
