There is evidence to suugest that the Androgyne is the oldest archetype that we humans have access too. It comes up in Plato's Symposium and later Greek characters like Dionysus. Ancient Matriarchal societies like the native Americans and Daoists all make reference ot the 2-Spirit, balanced individual who has fused their opposing gender associatiated forces to become a unified, of in Jung's words, self-actualised person.

With so many new variations of gender roles and genderlessness, transexuals, polysexuals, metrosexuals, transgendered, pomosexuals, gay men practicing homo-masculinity and hyper-masculinity, straight men calling themselves ubersexuals, the lines are becoming increasingly blurred and i want to know what people think about the idea that in order to fully liberate the human condition from the shackles imposed by the divisive materialist dominant culutre that insists we adhere to a dyadic representation of gender identification. What is it to be male or female

Okay, so people agree, its a valuable area of inquiry...what gets in the way of all og us exploring these themes in our personal experience of life??

For me the answer is homophobia, but also mental health oppression, mens oppression and the fact that i am doing internal work around the idea of being more balanced...does it have ot be overt even??

The duality is not necessarily based on gender. It's based on qualities that are easily described in terms of the male and female, but it is not limited by our modern construction of gender.

In the present, as well as the past, there are many sexual/gender variations. In the past, a man could hug, kiss, even have sexual relations with another man without being labeled as "gay." Modern society seems to be obsessed with the classification and categorization of genders.

When we are born, we are forced to fit into a male/female system. If you are not one, then you are the other. But there are hermaphrodites, for example, and less obviously, men or women with "spirits" that do not match their bodies.

Basically, all of our modern labels are representations along the spectrum from the most "masculine" (Yang) to the most "feminine" (Yin).

To understand each and to have a balance is the ideal - no matter what other labels you wish to use to define yourself.

In religious mythology, they say that it takes two soul-mates, one male, one female, to fuse together to make an angel.

Incidentally, who says God is a man?
Ever heard of Mother Nature, and Mother Earth?

The happiest people I know are the most androgynous.
The ones who don't fare so well are the ones who are the males who are too male, and the females who are too female. They have trouble relating to each other.
