Gas prices are a reflection of the market condition and supply and demand. The current crude oil prices reflect about $50+ due to supply and demand, and about $20+ due to geopolitical issues. Those prices are not directly related to President Bush and his administration. It has a lot to do with future speculators, which, in my view, are incorrect, and are incorrectly setting prices higher.
Furthermore, there are states, such as California, that have additional taxes built-in to gas prices that make things even more expensive. California has about 45 cents additional in gas taxes. That has absolutely nothing to do with President Bush. These are state taxes that are set by the (gulp) Democratic-controlled California Senate.
Just last week, we heard the news that substantial oil pipes in Alaska, controlled by British Petroleum (BP) went offline because of major leaks. That oil area alone supplied 8% of the oil in the Western U.S. Crude oil prices shot up by a few dollars, only to go down by a few dollars days later when BP announced that they will partially open the fields, and repair the rest of the pipes by early next year. Are we going to blame those leaks on President Bush too? How absurd!
Also, the U.S. has enjoyed low prices at the pumps for decades, while the rest of the world has been paying substantially more for decades.
Blaming President Bush only reveals the ignorance of how the markets work. Unfortunately, there are people that blame the administration on anything that is going in their life and around them.
While I don't agree with everything that the Bush Administration has done, I think it has done an incredible job in light of recessionary worries as it started its administration (the economy was at a strong downturn in Clinton's last year+), 9/11, war on terrorism, major natural disasters, and other geopolitical issues.
We are now in a strong economy, which surprised even the Democrats, who said the this administration would put us in a recession or worse! President Bush has had a lot to handle, partly due to President Clinton's inaction during his 8 years, particularly in regards to terrorism (has everyone forgot about the 1st terror attack on the World Trade Center under the Clinton administration?? How about the attack on the Cole, or other attacks on U.S. interests abroad??)
Blaming President Bush on higher gas prices is absurd and emotional. It is baseless in facts.

The simple law of supply and demand determines gas prices, as it always has. The oil companies are still rebuilding the gulf refineries and drilling platforms damaged during hurricane Katrina, and the critical Conoco-Phillips refinery in Illinois was recently damaged and shut down by tornado-force winds. Also, British Petroleum won't have the needed special pipe sleeving to repair their feeder pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to the Alyeska pipeline until the end of the year.
President Bush doesn't control the weather, or BP's pipeline maintenance. However, he HAS maintained and improved our diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia and Mexico, and they have pledged to make up the oil shortfall due to the BP outage. Bush has also agreed to release some oil from the strategic oil reserves to help improve the current situation.

There is no one person or organisaiton that can be bvlamed for high oil prices. The world is facign an increased global demand for oil and subsequent petro chemicals. This means that strains are increasing. It is not that tehre are not enough reseerves to serve the demand, it is just that daily produciton can not increase at the same rate. There is also political battles, or petro politics, that affect supply as well. Many countries are starting to oil, and money from it, to build of alliances rather than trading heavily. Venezuala is case example of this. OVerall tehre is no oil conspiracy, it is about stability vss instability, supply versus demand and political difrerecences. Oh and then athere are always teh gas guzzling SUVs that people drive.

No, he is not.
First of all, the oil is there. Supplies haven't suddenly dwindled away to nothing.
The problem is production and refinement. Our federal government, in order to try and protect portions of our environment have prevented any new petrolium refineries from being built. The refineries are operating at near capacity now, unable to produce greater volumes of gasoline.
This, coupled with the fact that refineries have had to switch to "summer blend" in order to meet environmental demands, have slowed production. Switching to summer blend fuel is not a simple task. It involves having to shut down and clean portions of the processing plant so the summer blend won't be contaminated.
There are more cars on the road now, thus more demand.
Oil, fuel oil, diesel and gasoline are all commodities that are traded on the Commodity Exchange markets. Agents of trading companies buy large quantities of the product at one price; knowing that they can turn around at sell it at a higher price.
Production limited by capacity, more vehicles (more demand) and spectulation in the commodities market have driven prices up.

And the price of tea.
No president has the power to change prices. We have a free market in the US. The Blind hand of the market sets the prices.
A market economy has no central coordinator guiding its operation, yet theoretically self-organization emerges amidst the complex interplay of supply and demand and price regarding a multitude of goods and services. Supporters of a market economy generally hold that the pursuit of self-interest is actually in the best interest of society. Adam Smith says:
"By pursuing his own interest [an individual] frequently promotes that of the society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it. I have never known much good done by those who affected to trade for the [common] good."

Yes he has his fingers in every part of the problem. And I agree that he don't set prices on anything but his job is to control it. Not give more or our TAX MONEY to a rich OIL Co. Don't they have enough? But it on Green Power. Mine the Earth and make solar panels. Do something usefull with MY TAX MONEY. I would rather my money went in to something usefull that could help me not help the RICH. Or into a war.
The BIG OIL Co's are bring in billions on top of billions in profict and George Bush just keeps giveing them more of our money. There is a war between Israel and Lebanon which has no oil nor is either country with in hundreds of miles of the oil fields and Israel is the only one cabable of shooting someone that far away. And they would not shoot a tanker because that would piss us off at them and we are their biggest supporters. So why do you think George B. allowed them to raise the prices per gallon by about 20 cents per gallon? If we have Oil in the Golf of Mexico and in Alaska and in the waters all around the cost of the USA why is George not makeing them dril a few holes? I mean they are making billions and billions and billions of profit plus George is giveing them more money. but nothing is getting done.
George W. Bush is not fighting for the people of the USA. He is fighting for the BIG OIL Co's right to get rich and scam the people of this country.
I have just read the blogs after mine and can see that most people are sheep and are happy with things like they are and have no plans to make things better. We the People could vote the tree huggers out of office and then we could drill anywhere we want for oil. It is George Bush that is not doing his job and pushing for this to happen. George as well could keep the Billions and billions he is giveing to the OIL Co's and put it in puting Solar Panels on my roof top. The BIG OIL Co's don't need the money they are rich enough.
Only problem with useing Green Power is once it is in place the RICH can't find a way to make money from it. So George Bush don't support it as much. He does put a little money in it so he don't look like a SH!T to the rest of the country. But most of the money goes to line the pockets of his RICH buddies.
I don't want to be rich but I don't like living in a world that takes two people working over time just to pay the bills.
