Anyone know? Are there any pictures of the machine they use and type of keys? Thanks

Stenotype machines were used by court stenographers but are being phased out. They are different than standard typewiter key layouts and were more ergonanomically layed out.
Most courts use tape recorders with back-up tape recorder systems.
You'll have to go to google pictures and google the machine.

Most courtrooms are going to an electronic court recording device. This records the microphone output of the judge, witness, etc. on separate tracks so later a regular transcriptionist can type out the transcript. Because of the separate tracks, a human being is no longer needed in the courtroom to identify the person speaking.

Court reporters are a dying breed, I'm afraid.

I wouldn't say court reporters are becoming a dying breed. They're in demand, and the field is growing. Also, they don't only work in court rooms. That's just one of many places.

no they use a different type of typewriter...called a stenograph.
