When the human race finaly does colonize mars or the lagrange points, what is to prevent another jones town massacre or Waco incident from happening again. Should religious people even be aloud to enter space when the time comes.?

The question isn't about purity of heart it is about religious zealots in space.

Religion always has and always will cause more trouble than it is worth.
Money is the God of space travel, but that old Devil-God, will certainly hitch a ride.

I guess you weren't around when the Astronauts read from the book of Isiah on Christmas eve while in orbit around the Moon.

Einstein was religious. Lots of "rocket science" people I've known have been religious, in that they believed (and believe) in God or another deity who has given us the ability to choose whether we will follow Him or not. Lots of science people may not be religious. What does that have to do with whether they should or should not have the opportunity if they are qualified?

Your question begs the ignorant to answer as I perceive you think. Not all religious people rushed to Jonestown -- but my wife had a teacher who died there (he'd become a congressman, and went to investigate). Waco? Ask Bill Clinton and Janet Reno, not necessarily David Koresh. (They are still alive, he died there, in case you didn't know the names of the people involved.)

It has less to do with religion and more to do with practicality.

lLarge scale space development will rely on extreme amounts of automation as the radiation in space will deteriorate living cells to carcinogenic levels rapidly.

Although radiation shileding is possible, it will likely require a few generations of technology to "work the bugs out".

Meanwhile, the prudent space developer will use older personel so that when they all get cancer in 10-20 years, they will have presumably died of natural causes first.

As robots become more sophisticated, look for them to do the majority of space grunt work.

As far as religion is concerned, space platforms would be very susceptible to terrorist damage and the results extremely expensive, so as few people in space as possible will be the corporate policy.

Hopefully space travel will be an escape from religion. The only way to avoid Waco type incidents is to not teach the students in colony schools anything religion, they can't know anything of it, the idea of religion would be wiped from the history books for them, ignorance is bliss. Religious people should be able to visit space if they could be shown proof that their religious beliefs are baseless. They should absolutely not be allowed to be part of a colonization program, everyone would have to be on the same page in this circumstance.

The potential of space travel to other worlds is THE major theme in science fiction. It seems to stem from the human need to practice self-determination. While the Earth is so crowded that there are no more frontiers from which to carve out new cultures and societies, the possibility of space travel beckons many. Personally, I think only Atheists and Agnostics should be allowed to explore space.

i'm an atheist... in my opinion, i think of we'd desire to do area return and forth ASAP... get some form of sustainable colony till now non secular nutjobs wreck Earth. In my journey (like with my kinfolk as an occasion)... area return and forth is seen as absurd to the non secular. in many human beings's view, Jesus is coming at any minute, so who cares approximately such high priced, ineffective, and frivolous interest.

My, my! What makes you folks think that atheists are any more pure of heart than religious people?

From the answers here it would seem atheists are at least very narrow minded and very intolerant.

I think all religeous people should be allowed to colonise the la Grange points right now.

They can build a make shift shelter when they get there.
