This subject was brought up in one of my psychology classes some years back.
MOST of us discussing it concluded that the term "African American" is a "government" term for the races,and that it's up to the INDIVIDUAL to determine how THEY want to be addressed.
As a foot note,the US Census Bureau does not have an ethnical term for Caucasians ie;European Americans,on ANY of it's documents,though "Asian American",African American",Hispanic American....." are on all their forms and publications.
Makes on think doesn't it?

I think everyone who's an American citizen should be called an "American". You guys all pay the same taxes, are under the the same laws, sing the same national anthem, you are under the SAME FLAG... why do you have to put yourselves into other categories?
