You should probably get away from the computer, at least for a while. When you meet people and make friends you'll feel alot better. I cried the first few days when I was first dropped off to college, especially when they just left. I felt stranded and alone. But believe me, it will get better. So if you want to meet people you could walk around campus....or go to the bookstore....just get out. And if you see someone carrying stuff you can offer your help. There are usually orientation actitivites, so make sure you go to them...dont be intimidated by people who already seem to have a group of friends, they might just live nearby and went to the same high school. There are tons of people just like you who are feeling homesick and want to make friends. Plus, you'll meet even more people when classes start...strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you...or if you walk into a class and notice someone from your dorm sit near them. Anyway, good luck and dont worry, it will get better!

I definitely agree with everyone else in that sitting in front of your computer is the last place you should be right now. If the idea of wandering around meeting random people makes you a little queasy (like it does for me), then maybe you should go seek out your RA. They're always good people to make friends with, and probably have been trained on how to help new students out with homesickness. Plus, he or she can probably introduce you to a couple of people on your floor - that way you don't have to put yourself "out there" as much. Whatever you decide to do, definitely get out of your room! Wallowing will only make it worse. Good luck!

Venture out of your room. Introduce yourself to people. Take a walk around campus. If someone asks you for directions somewhere and you know where it is, offer to walk them there. It will be a good time to make some small talk and a new friend. Just having 1 or 2 people to talk to can make a difference. Once classes get started, you will meet new people there. Don't worry, it will get better!

I was the exact same way when my parents left me at school. Try to find people who are the same way. The thing that made me feel better was that a bunch of girls from my dorm who were all pretty much feeling the same we all went out for pizza and a movie. Walk around the dorm some. Good luck!

Just remember that it will be okay. Sometimes it will be overwhelming, but that's just because its new, but it will normalize soon.
If it helps to stay online and communicate with your friends and family, then I suggest doing that. Call your friends and family to help curb the homesick feelings. Trust me it will get better, but you have to stick it out. Independance rocks.

Go exploring! There are probably many kids like you going through the same thing. Get off your computer and go outside. Try the cafe or student center. My favorite place was the common grounds outside, I made most of my friends there.

Go outside, walk around the dorm, get acquainted. It takes time, but sitting at your computer isn't helping it along. Good luck to you though!
