I think Yoga would be more beneficial to get flexible. To me pilates is more about strengthening particularly the core.

You "do" dance? Does this mean your audition when well a month ago and you're now taking classes? If so, I'd say that while pilates can help a dancer become more flexible, in YOUR case, you should probably just give your dance classes more time. It's going to take more than a month to build flexibility. If you're "doing" your dancing in class rather than in your bedroom, you should be finding just what a work-out a real, live class can give you. If anything, I'd recommend you add more dance classes before adding pilates. At 13, you should be dancing at least 10 hours a week if you're serious about dance. If you're doing at least 10 hours, then sure, go ahead and add pilates, if you can squeeze it into a busy life of Yahoo Answers, instant messaging and turtle-hiding. ;-)

And, hey, that's great to hear you might actually choose a best answer! You know, with the 159 questions you've asked, you could have had so many more points by now, as you get 3 points each time you choose a best answer. I know you choose a best answer occasionally, but most of the time you don't, which isn't fair to all the people who take the time to answer you.

(I'm not pushing you to pick me, either, as I've got plenty of "best answers.")

Pilates is great especially if you are able to do more than just floor pilates (like pliates on the machine). Make sure you have a good trainer. Yoga will help with flexibility but pilates will help with flexibility and give you a lot of strength and tone your body.

It depends on what you do within pilates. Pilates is the "dancers" workout because it's designed specifically for dancers. Although I think it's amajor rip-off since it's the same warm-up's and stuff that I did already in dance classes before pilates. Pilates is suppoesed to build lean muscle as opposed to the bulky muscle that bodybuilding would produce. The flexibility will come from what specific excercises you do. The must be ones that actually strecth your muscles that you want to gain more flexibiltiy in. If they are strength excersizes they will not make you more flexible.

The dance school I teach at offers both yoga and pilates. I think the two in combination are the key.

Pilates is most benefitial for dancers. You'll get flexibile and strong. Pilates focuses more on strengthening and line using stretches and repetition. You should also try yoga for more stretching. Yoga stretches more parts of the body and is slower paced.
