I do not give at all, for I have heard about too much money going into pockets of the officials at charities. How can anyone know if any are honest or not? Some people who bum on the streets have money. Once, on Xmas Eve, I passed three hippie types on Grant Avenue in San Francisco. Later, I saw them again, and they were deciding what liquors they were going to buy with money they had collected. They were not buying Thunderbird. If they have so much, they need nothing from me.

If I have a few loose coins , and I happen to walk past a collector at a shopping centre, I will often give to a charity .

I really think to myself first, what is this charity organisation actually doing , If I know anyone that has any symptons with causes that the charity looks into , then I often decide yes , eg - cancer , homeless issues etc

Usually, I donate to Amercan Red Cross and Unicef (and some environmental programs). I haven't come across scam programs yet, but I'm on the lookout.
