Tom Seaver. From his arrival in 1967, the Mets stopped being just a bunch of sandlot players. He was a class of his own until some of the others like Koosman, Agee and Cleon Jones started catching up. He still holds over 70% of Mets pitching records.

Best batter? Probably Keith Hernandez--he was a team leader for many years both on and off the field. The Mets' dominance in the mid 80s started with Keith's arrival in 1983.

as much as i love most of the answers given such as hernandez, carter, hojo, piazza..........tom seaver still is the one i have to answer.

seaver was the first player in the mets organization who simply refused to accept losing. not only did he have the talent to go out and perform to a very high level, he had the winning attitude and instilled that attitude in his teammates.

seaver is a hall of famer, the only player up to this point enshrined wearing a mets cap.......hopefully in a few years piazza will be inducted and things will work out that he goes in with a mets cap on his plaque, but seaver is and will likely will always be number 1.

It has to be Tom "Terrific" Seaver....It looked like it would be Gooden after his first two seasons, but...

Other candidates would include: Hernandez, Carter, Gooden, Cone and Strawberry. In 7 years or so, maybe Wright, Beltran or Reyes will be in the conversation.
