I want to increase the HP for my 735i E23 (made in 1983) by adding a turbocharger. It has now 218hp,what do you think is the maximum I can get,the engine is 3420cmc. What else can I do to increase the power apart from turbocharger for this specific car?

Considering you're in europe I would think there would be many places to get info on improving the performance of your car. Without knowing more about the condition of your car I can't say if turbocharging is a good idea or not. Here's a link for Alpina a company with a close relationship with BMW for many years:

Why would you want to turbocharge a 23 year old car????

...and what makes you think your car is producing 218 hp? Did you put it on a dyno? ...or are you going from the literature of 1983 and just assuming the car is still performing the way it did in 1983? Odds are the car is NOT producing 218 hp (unless you've recently rebuilt the engine).

By today's standards, 218hp is pretty anemic, especially in such a large, heavy car. Why not purchase a newer car?

Turbocharging is expensive, and touchy. It puts a great deal of stress on the engine (from pressures the engine was not likely designed to manage), and as such will bring it to an earlier demise, needing replacement or rebuild.

A newer car is more economical and effective.
