Your baby will not get into a set pattern of sleep for a while yet. As long as she is getting enough sleep all together throughout a 24 hour period she is perfectly normal. Babies generally don't sleep for extended periods or stay awake for extended periods. They eat for extended periods though! LOL If you are tired ask someone for help. They could watch the baby for few hours while you get some much needed rest. If you are breastfeeding try and pump and get someone else to help with feedings. Nipple confusion is an unproven fact. If you are worried about it though there are alternatives like finger feeding and cup feeding. Go to babycenter.com they have great info and answered a lot of my dilemas for me.

My baby is 7 weeks old and he doesn't sleep much during the day. His naps are very short....half an hour at the most. Luckily he sleeps during the night and only wakes up to be fed (he wakes up 3 or 4 times a night!). I think each baby is different and as long as your baby is putting on weight, is healthy and seems content then you have nothing to worry about. It is tiring having a newborn. This is my first baby and I'm learning everyday. I've also got used to sleeping for 2-3 hours at a time.

When my son was a new born he would sleep for 20 mins and then be good for several hours. He was a very healthy baby and is now a healthy 9 year old. Of course he also has extreme ADHD. Not sure if they tie in together or not, but he is rarely sick.
Don't worry babies sleep when they are tired.

My two-month-old likes to take 20 min power naps during the day, and then sleeps for 4 hour stretches at night. As much as I would like her to take a NAP, she is human and we all have different sleep habits and needs. So long as she is eating well, and having dirty diapers she will be fine. Talk to your doctor at her next visit, if you think something is wrong though. You are the mother and should go with your gut if you think something is off.

That is normal behavior for newborns. For the last nine months she has normally slept while you were active during the day and rocking her with your movement, and then played at night while you are still. Takes them a while to turn their schedule around.
A "trick" we used with all four of ours was in the late afternoon to evening use a damp wash clothe to rub their face when they are starting to nap to wake them, then talk to, laugh at them and play with them. Gives you "bonding" time and keeps them awake a little longer so they will be ready to sleep when you need them to sleep.

Both my children were like this, sleeping only for short periods of time. Don't think u need worry unless your baby is obviously distressed. If she's feeding and filling the nappy she's probably OK.

Try bringing her into bed with you. She may sleep better close to you. Be sure to read up on safe cosleeping first.
