It was made in the 60s or 70s, I think - and it starred Walter Matthau as a confirmed bachelor who, for some reason, had to get married. So his butler found him some OTT female. I remember it was really, really funny, but I had to leave half-way through so never got to see the end. I know I can find a filmography of him online - but I've no idea of the name, so it doesn't help. Anyone know what I'm on about?

I believe it is called "A New Leaf" (1971). About a wealthy bachelor who spends all his money, can't borrow from his uncle, and decides to marry a rich botanist.

It was A New Leaf from 1971. It was written and directed by Elaine May who also co-starred as the nerdy but rich botanist he eventually falls in love with.
