The Australia/Italy game with the last minute penalty is the most notable, but you could take your pick from:

Spain/France - Henry clutching his face after Puyol's stray forearm across the chest. It was no different than most challenges week in/week out in either the Premiership or La Liga, yet Henry sold it like he'd been hit with a Sniper Rifle shot. France scored from the resulting free-kick (and again later on to finish the game off) and it can be argued that the Spanish defedning was desirable anyway. Still, this was the turning point of the game and ultimately knocked the Spaniards out.

Switzerland - Didn't lose a game in 90/120 minutes, played some pretty good stuff and still got eliminated by a horrific Ukraine side. Some might say it's karma after playing so shockingly awful in that Ukraine match.

Argentina - Best team in the competition by far, played some scintilating football and had some brilliant players who had yet to really 'turn it on' (i.e Riquelme, Messi, Tevez). Bad luck getting the hosts when they did, Germany were looking really good and had an immense backing from their fans....getting knocked out on penalties was an injustice to that Argentina side.

It was a really uneventful World Cup, the worst since 1990. Cheating players and woeful refereeing destroyed the great job the German's put on by hosting it (police presence, fan festivals, general organisation).

Australia:
Penalty in the last minute of the game? What??? Come on!

Argentina:
injured goalie (who happens to be a PK specialist),
lousy coach's decisions in the final game,
biased ref in the final game (I agree with Lola; give Maxi a card because a German tripped him? That's a penalty for, not a yellow against!),
tough rivals in every friggin' round and a Group of Death for the second time in a row....

All the teams who played against Italy were screwed with PK that didn't exist or just consenting the violence of Italian players.

It is not new, in USA 94 Tasotti broke Spanish Luis Enrique nose, bleeding that they say it was ok.

im going to go with my usual...argentina, though i do admit that it seemed like some refs were out to get some teams and really bring down their game. it was a shame to see such poor ref work because these people are so incredibly important for the game.

example: argentina vs germany.....maxi is running, gets tripped by a german player, falls due to trip (and possible semi-wet and slippery grass), and maxi gets a yellow card. whatthefuck!!!???

Australia got screwed on Neill's "penalty" against Italy. It decided the game. That should never happen.

Germany-Frings suspension and Grosso's goal in the 119th minute.
France-the refs, and Trezeguet's missed PK.
Australia-Grosso's dive (we all know what happened)

What have all these teams got in common? They all played against Italy when they ran into bad luck/bad referees

touzours, the penalty kick for France still haunts me. It was very wimpy. A more serious one for Portugal against France was totally ignored by the referee. It was an unreal (as well as an unfair) bad decision!
