I've just bought a beef joint from Sainsbury's and found a security microchip in the pack. It even had a warning sticker on it. Has anyone else noticed this or do I live in a ghetto?
We've got cows nearby, why don't they push the boat out a nick one of those?

When i lived in Coventry while i was a uni a few years ago I used to go shopping to the Tescos late at night because it was quieter then.
I was just on my way out of the front door when a security guard jumped on a girl behind me, she fell to the floor and as she fell to the floor she was pulling steak, chickens and bottles of whisky out of her knickers and trouser legs.
That was bizarre

I've known kids who have been banned from my local butcher's shop for shoplifting. I've never noticed a security chip in beef joints at my local Sainsbury's though.

I don't know but round my way the thieves are so desperate they stole a picture of Ozzy, Marilyn Manson and Robbie Williams from my friend's desk at work. Apparently it was inciting dissent in the office.

Security chips are supposed to be removed before you leave the store. Why didn't it trigger the alarm?

Those RFID chips are supposed to be used for "marketing purposes" so they can determine the lifestyles and consumer tastes to determine the best foods to sell. How they can tell this by someone picking it up and putting it in their cart, I don't know.

Thanks for the warning!

This prevents "price tag switching" by a customer.
That has become more common in recent years, with pre-packed products and scanning at checkout.

Not heard of that before, must be something new.
I work in the food industry (fresh produce) and haven't heard of anything like that before and we supply sainburys.

But saying that, you will be surprised what you will do when you are hungry and I mean really hungry.

The tag is to protect you from angry, insane or mothers-against-drunk-driving cows. Plus to spy on your habits.
