why do people insist on telling people to use anti virus, anti spy ware, install more memory and get a new computer, if your computer worked OK when you 1st got it it's gonna work OK again if you get it back to how it was when you 1st bought it and the only way you can do that is to format the hard drive reload the O/S back onto it but before you do that make sure you have backed up all the stuff that you need to keep and make sure you have the drivers although if your using XP it tends to load most common devices for you. if you need help on how to do this send me a message. I guarantee that this option WILL get your computer back running as good as it was when you 1st got it.

While youve checked for virus and defragmented you should manually go through your computer to check for unwanted files, just be careful what you remove.
Any unused software or programs set to load on startup should be disabled or uninstalled.
It may simply be time for an upgrade :]

Try ccleaner - it get rid of useless things you don't need, and has a nose in the registry as well.
Also, go to start/run type msconfig and have a look under the startup tab to see what stuff is being run on startup that you don't need - you may be surprised.

You have to limit what programs start up when you start up your system. To see whats on your startup programs , go to: START,SETTINGS,TASKBAR START MENU,START MENU PROGRAMS,ADVANCED,then all the programs on the right side is the ones that are starting up when you start up your pc.You can delete them from there and your pc should start a bit faster. Norton scans for viruses on start up, so it is a good idea go keep your virus protection progam on.

Windows XP and 200 are the slowest starters - get more memory, or disable some of the start-up programs

sometimes it just has to be a reformat of the hard drive and reinstall to get a clean startup. Otherwise, you have to be knowledgeable enough to check off each startup program as it is loaded.

Some BS group of spyware, trojans...Back up your hard drive and reformat your hard drive with windows again. The drop your content back on it again. Only way to clean it up. Hire a professional to do it. Its cheaper than you think.
