Surely the answer to this question depends on the interpretation of the collection of letters 'whai'? As far as I'm aware this combination does not exist in English.

If you read it as 'what', the answer is three eighths (or possibly 3/8ths, but NOT 0.375, you shouldn't mix decimal fractions with proper fractions.

If 'whai' is a mispelling of 'why', then the question must surely be read 'Why is the half of a half, one and a half', which of course it isn't. Half of a half is a quarter.
