If you look carefully, you will see them hanging onto the undersides of leaves and branches of trees and similar places near houses or where humans build.
They can dry very quickly if it is warm. They will hide more deeply if it is windy and will take longer to reappear.

Was hosing last week and the butterfly just closed his wings and stayed where it was. They have (I think) the same sense that crickets have, whereby they know if rain is coming.

I think they go and sit on a branch of leaf, on the underside so they do not get wet

They sit under my Budlia (Butterfly bush) watching Pappillon on DVD while eating honey ...sorry damp weather just got to me...HOW THE HELL SHOULD I KNOW YOU SOUND MORE BORED THAN I AM!!!!
