I'm a big fan of synthetic oil and run it in my cars. In my experience, I get a little better gas mileage with synthetic oil. It also has a longer change interval, so I usually change oil at 1 year/10k miles, whichever comes first. I chage the filter at the same time. I have never had any engine failure that involved moving parts, such as bearings, camshaft, crankshaft, rings or other such parts.

Of course, you still have to check your oil level regularly and top it up, but I recommend symthetic oil. I find that Wal-Mart generally has the best prices and has a killer deal on its own brand of synthetic oil.

It is much more expensive. Don't waste your money. But DOOOOO change the oil and filter every 3000 miles. I have a car that is 20 yrs old and has over 200,000 miles one and doesn't smoke or use any oil between changes.

i have read synthetic oil will prelong the life of your auto. use synthetic fluids in your tranny and there should never be a problem! however it is costly, and this is something you should do after more research only.
