Actually its simple.. you can start off with those that offer free web hosting.. or even blog's website like blogspot or xanga. As long as you got nice layout or template for it, i don't think it will look cheap + nice pictures of the stuffs that you wanna sell, i think all will look good.
I know of a few friends who do their online store thru blogs too.. so i think this is the cheapest and most efficient way..
Do keep me inform of you website yeah.. i'm an online shopping addict.. :) All the best..

Depends on what you want to sell. For instance if you want to sell printed art Coffeepress.com might be a good choice because they handle the shipping (Coffeepress.com is mostly free). Otherwise you might consider Ebay which is good for many things. If you want a real professional online shop consider getting your own domain (prices from approx. 15$/yr) and some online shop software which I am sure you can find some freeware for. If you are a little knowledgable in programming you can also make your own shop with paypal.

the best thing to do is get a web developer. You probably have several who could do it locally for only a few hundred dollars - find some college kids eager for a couple of bucks. They'll help you register your site domain (legally - a lot of companies out there claim to register your domain name, but they just take your couple of bucks and you're without a domain name!) and set up the storefront.
You can check out sites like www.godaddy.com, and I think even Yahoo's packages may have something, but if you're not good at web design (especially MSQL and PHP, because that's where I get real hung up!) you'll waste hours not to mention money trying to develop your site.

It's not easy...
Design skills, programming skills, database skills, access to a server that allows you to run backend scripting, a contract with someone to securely deal with money transactions (Secpay springs to mind) and time to keep maintaining it.
Macromedia have Coldfusion - http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/ as a start in the interactive process, but if you're new to this, it's going to be a steep learning curve. Possibly better to get someone to do it for you.

Try 1&1 if you have no programming skills, they give you the tools free when you sign up for a business site, plus they have technical support.
