Yes it is a good safe car.
Depending on where you are, maintenance parts may be a bit expensive. If you are in Europe, it is a great car.
If you are in USA, it is still a good car, but you might want to shop for parts and spares on the web to get good prices, before you need the parts. You'll also need to find someone to reset the oil change light. You can buy the part yourself, or have a dealer do it for a pricey fee, or find an alternative shop with experience with BMWs.
Most other countries have replacement parts for BMWs that are not terribly expensive.
The car can be no safer than the driver.

The 2006 3 series was awarded a top safety pick by the insurance institute of highway safety. That is based on front, side, rear crash ratings, plus head protection. And yes, it's a great car with full maintenence for 4 years, including brakes.

kman doesnt know wut hes talkin about. I owned 2 beamers, im 19. my oldest beamer has 400,000 miles on it. To achieve great performance you have to keep up with the maintenence.
Now back to the question.
Yes. if your looking for a good safe car i would recommend the 3-series just because i have hit people with mines and i havent totaled it but i totaled the car i hit and me not gettin 1 cratch on my body. if you looking for more of a luxury get the X5. Ive seen one roll over and the person came out not bleeding our nothing. Her compartment was the same if she didnt hit anything.

They are nice but not reliable. Go for an Acura. They are very nice, get good gas mileage, and are alot cheaper.
