I would pass legislation for a flat tax where everybody making over $25,000 per year would have to pay a flat 5% federal income tax. I would elminate all the loopholes which cause the middle class and lower class tax payers to pay more than their fair share and it would also reduce loopholes that large corporations get away with because they grease the politicians hands.

I would pass a bill stating that anyone operating a motorvehicle and using a cell phone that is involved in an accident is automatically at fault. Even if the other person was the one trying to make a left hand turn.

Do you really think passing a law is that easy? First you must draft it in such a way as to eliminate legal loopholes (attorneys and politicians are great at finding loopholes, and a law with loopholes is near worthless). Then, you must present it to the body where you preside in. But the process is not an easy one... you must persuade and convince others in that body to vote in favor of your proposed law. Then there are other legislative bodies that must also vote and pass it... and hope they don't try to change it; the governor must also pass it (if a state-wide law) or city counsel or city board or whatever... well, it ain't easy! It's a long drawn out process.

Me? I'd try to pass a law that would include very long jail sentences to elected officials and public servants who lie to the public during campaigns that are televised, or radio or are on paper (like newspapers ads) or bulletin boards and in public speeches, and a longer jail time for those crooked elected officials and civil servants that accept bribes, graft, favors from special interest groups... more time than the average citizen and strips them of pay and any accumulated benefits for betraying public trust! Why do you think our elderly, our in firmed and disabled on Social Security can't afford medicines and must often decide on whether to buy food or medicines? Because our elected officials are selling themselves like the prostitutes they are to special interests that are reeking in huge fortunes at the expense of the elderly, the infirmed and disabled, and our elected politicians have misspent, mishandled and mismanaged and squandered the surplus monies that were there before the present administration came to office! They betray our own citizens with lies every single day they open their mouths to speak and should not be allowed to continue to benefit from their treachery and deceit; they should be held accountable for their promises and for their actions... and punished more severely than the general criminals of this country who do not steal near as much nor have the excellent education as our crooked elected politicians.

I'd also pass a law that would incarcerate pedophiles for life on the second sentence, and an automatic death sentence (maybe by way of an electric enema?) if they kill the child they sexually abused (to hell with the "cruel and unusual punishment nonsense when it comes to pedophiles; what they DO to children is more than cruel and unusual, and making their punishment something to fear is deterrent enough... all else has failed to rehabilitate these monsters!). No parole and no early release the first time they are found guilty, and when they serve their prison term and they fail to report and are apprehended again for not reporting their whereabouts, they are sent back to prison to do same lengthy sentence again where they must learn a trade and work at it for the entire jail term and send any money they earn to the child/children they abused for their education and/or therapeutic rehabilitation of the child/children abused; but, life sentences the second time they are found guilty of child endangerment, attempted child endangerment, kidnapping or attempted kidnapping or attempted child-molesting or child-molesting where they would have to learn a trade in jail and work 8 hours a day for 5 days for the rest of their stinking, miserable lives, making something to be sent to Third World countries (like clothes, shoes that will be given out to the poor, elderly and disabled free of charge).

I Would pass a law that all laws expire in seven years. Keep our government busy trying to deiced what laws to keep instead of always passing new laws. Some are no brainers, like murder, rape and theft. But others do need to be thought out ever so often!
