both computers are on satelite modem.One is already connected to the printer using USB.Please be detailed as I am not real savvy.

Go to control panel "Printers and Faxes" on the computer that is hooked to the printer. In "Printers and Faxes", find your printer on the list, right tic on it, select properties, select the "Sharing" tab. Select "share this printer" option. That should do it, just remember, the computer that the printer is hooked to HAS TO BE TURNED ON, in order for the printer to work remotely. You are really sharing the print spooler on the main computer, the laptop transmits the file to be printed to the main computer and it goes into the "printer spooler" as a temporary file until the file has been printed. The file is then automatically deleted from the printer spooler after the print job has finished.

What version of Windows are you using? Usually you have to setup a home network where each computer can see the other computer. You can specify file/printer sharing during the process of creating the network.
I don't remember how Windows 98 is setup, but for Windows XP, you go into the Control Panel, then double-click the "Network Setup" wizard.
If both computers are using XP, you can just run the "Network Setup" wizard on both systems. However, if one is using an older version, you'll have to create a network disk (using the newer computer) and run that disk on the older computer.
(Edit: This is all assuming you are setup on a router.)
