Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Science has yet to prove how it works.

Reiki is everything the others mentioned (except Loss Leader). More importantly, if you become a practitioner, it is also a journey that will connect you with your Creator. My Reiki journey actually lead me away from athiesm to spirituality. Reiki energy always goes for the highest and best of the giver and receiver. That makes it difficult to measure. My friend had a pain in one area of her body. I laid my hands on her and requested that energy be sent to relieve her pain. I could feel the energy going in, but it didn't feel like it was staying where I thought it should. After a few minutes, I asked her if that area felt better. She said, "No, that still hurts, but my headache's gone!" Placebo effect? No chance. Another thing to consider is that this is a free will planet. Just because I lay my hands on somebody doesn't mean they will automatically feel better. The first step is not blocking the energy. If you can take that first step, the energy is then allowed to come in and work for your highest and best.
Quantum physics is coming closer to explaining how this works. Watch "What the Bleep do we Know?" and "Down the Rabbit Hole" for more information on quantum science.

Reiki is a traditional healing treatment from Japan. It was found by Mikao Usui. REI - universe, KI- energy. So Reiki is energy from universe (Etimology definition). Reiki is not a religious. It's only a healing technique by using universe's energy. The way of healing just put hands over the problem part of body (recommended). But if patient is far from practioner, he can transmit healing energy to patient. Reiki's energy is very very soft, like a floating mist. So it's safe to heal sensitive part of body. Person can fell this energy differently. If any disease can not be cured by modern therapy, medicine, surgery, so alternative way can do. One of these is REIKI.
Why Reiki?
1. easily learning and easily practice.
2. No special technical demand. Need unconditional love only
3. Energy flows easily.
4. It's safe
5. Energy will start and stop to flow automatically
6. It will heal completely, until recover.
7. Not influence by time, distance, place.
8. No contaminated
9. Will not exhaust practioner energy.
10. It's also used for plants, and animal.
Explanation existance of energy or healing result????
REIKI energy can be seen by Kirlian camera. It's easy to prove it.
Let practioner's hand held some thing, like stone, metal, even woods. When practioner let an energy flow to material, let's Kirlian camera take a photo. Some color will surround this material. Kirlian camera not only used for aura, but also energy.
Let take a cat sit beside practioner. Then practioner give energy's flow to cat. If cat still lying down, it mean cat need this energy, or vice versa.

Science not only has yet to prove how it works, science has yet to find any evidence That it works.
The basic tennet of Reiki is that there is some sort of life energy that can be manipulated by conscious thought. No device has ever measured any such "energy" let alone allowed anybody to manipulate it. In a test of Reiki practitioners, they could not even detect when another person was near them or not. And no Reiki healing has ever been shown to be more effective than a placebo.
No life-force, no manipulating the non-existent life-force and no healing because of it - it is complete nonsense.
And if it weren't, a Reiki practitioner could easily win a million dollars. James Randi will give one million dollars to anyone who can show that Reiki works better than a placebo. Yet not one of them has even applied. Go to www.randi.org for more information.

Reiki can refer to either the Universal Life Energy itself or the method used to transfer it to another person (animal or plant).
Right now science can't explain it. Someday, maybe. If it works what does it matter how?
