its not actually worth 6 points but eg a relegation 6 pointer is a must win game for both sides, and effectively worth 6 points to winners

a 6 pointer match is when two teams usually at the wrong end of the table @ relegation battle meet together.

in this situation, both teams would desperately need these points as both will go all out for a win. the match itself is usually very keenly contested & whoever wins the match will have a huge psychological advantage over their rivals.

although it is only worth 3 points for a win but to these teams it's already worth a lot.

If a team is on 27 points and they play the team who is on 30 points and the latter team wins they go 6 points clear or if they win they go on equal points.

It's just a term used for 2 teams who play each other round the same point region and both need the points badly
