i do not see how people can say english is the most difficult language to learn when it is by far the most popular second language in the world it is probably not possible to choose one language because it depends on the persons first language when learning a second an english speaker would have an easier time learning german than many others and a korean speaker would have an easier time learning chinese than many others for example

Difficulty is a relative term.

Languages sharing the same or similar syntactic features are easy for you to learn. Let's say your mother tongue is Turkish (mine is), and you want to learn English. Turkish and English are very different in terms of their syntax. Hence, it's going to be more difficult (not impossible) for an English to learn Turkish and for a Turk to learn English. Japanese, on the other hand, has similar syntactic constructions to Turkish, therefore Japanese is easier for a Turk to learn than English whereas an English would find Japanese or Turkish the most difficult language to learn.

Plus, you shouldn't judge the difficulty of a language by its alphabet. It's just the written form, and that has got nothing to do with the structure of the language. A language may look weird to you by its written form but if you start studying it you may find that its structures are close to your own language.

To sum up, difficulty of a langugage is determined by how similar or different (in terms of syntax, the sounds used, etc.) it is from your mother tongue.

Chinese I think. As I understand it many words sound the same but have totally different meanings which is indicated by the tone or emphasis with which it is said. Difficult to learn the sounds made, for English speaking natives anyway.

I'd say Chinese. Other languages still use letters a, b, c, etc but Chinese characters are totally different. Learning Chinese is not just learning a new language, but an all new alphabet altogether.

Japanese?

i have heard they use one form/ image for each word available in their vocubulary. it is not like combining letters to make a word - it is remembering the whole image! sounds difficult to me - for writing and reading. however, spoken Japanese is not that tough. i know a few stuff myself. one of my maternal uncle's wife is Japanese and she is the source of my knowledge on Japanese language.
