Well, only you will know this date as it is actually based on the first day of your last period, they assume conception happened approximately 14 days after the first day of your last period. That's why they ask that question, it's easier for them to calculate the delivery date.
When I had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks/3 days, it showed my baby was measuring 13 weeks/6 days. This would make my conception date earlier than I told them. That's not so as I know the date of the first day of my last period, it just means my baby is measuring on the larger size.

The earlier you get the Ultra Sound the better it is to determine the due date.

Because babies in the early stages form the same things at the same time. For example...it the give you an ultra sound and see a tad pole looking embryo with little arm buds they will know that a certain week is the week that the embryo gets arm buds. So you are that many weeks along.

Later on in the pregnancy, when most people have an ultra sound to determine the gender of the baby, the ultra sound has a higher chance of being off. Because at this point all babies are formed into babies and they will start to develop according to their own schedule. That is why some babies are born healthy at 5 pounds 6 oz and some born healthy at 10 pounds 12 oz :-)

No matter what date they give you it will always be an estimate. Always. Babies are born between 38-42 weeks. That is a huge gap. Some babies will not be ready to be born at 38 weeks even though it is considered to be "full term" but some will be perfectly fine born a few days before 38 weeks.

If you are more concerned about the date of conception then another poster explained it well. This is just an estimate as well. They go by the first day of your last period. They assume that you ovulated on day 14. Keep in mind that you personally could have ovulated way before day 14 or way later than day 14. Even if you did ovulate on day 14 you might have had sex up to five days before that. Sperm can live for 5 days in the right environment. So technically it is possible to "get pregnant" 5 days AFTER you had sex. Interesting isn't it.

If you are more interested in the date of conception then please give more details. Like the length of your cycle, when you had the ultra sound, what date you had sex on etc.

~~most of the time the ultrasound will be right on the money or within a day or two of the date of conception... which gives you a pretty good idea of when to expect your little bundle, but remember, some babies decide to come early, and some babies are a little more stuborn and it is possible to go past your due date. most Doctors though will induce labor if the baby don't seem to want to come into the world on time.~~

I would say more then likely the ultrasound would be more on the money as it goes by the development of the baby. and not by the date of your last period. the ultrasound took away a couple of days off my due to date so the baby was a little less developed then this.

My ultra sound said my due date would be january 6th and I had him januar 6th. I am the mother of four and he is the only one that hit the date. the other three were all off by about five days each.
