Do a themed menu of "backwards" food. Lisa Loeb and Dweezil Zappa did one in which everything they served looked like one thing but was something else. For instance, they made "cupcakes" which were actually mini-lasagnas and a "banana split" which was actually three different coloured pureed root vegetables.

Think outside the typical menu idea. Think crazy and rediculous, that'll help you find out what you DON'T want. Even think of not having the traditional book-style of menu or tri-fold. Go along the lines of either a stone-tablet menu, or a menu shaped like the Earth with the foods written on the countries. Ex: Mexico has Mexican food, Germany German food, India Indian food, etc. hope that helps generate some ideas...

Go to the library and borrow "The Magic Cookbook (The Great Book of Spells and Charms)" by Shane Brox, 2003.
It's a bit childish, but still fascinating, and definitely an original idea for one menu.

The look and feel of the menu should match the theme of the restaurant.
What kind of restuarant?
Fine dining - something classy, art deco, cury fonts
Fifties diner - neon and elvis
Pub - Mascot, olde english
Fast food - simple, easy to read, coloured/bolded specials
Good luck

Try Sweet and Sour Chicken and no not the Chinesse. They make a BBQ sauce like that people love wings before the main course. For the kids make sure either pizza or Spaggetti. Youger kids like finger food like chicken nuggets. Adults like either chicken strips or Steak- make your own sauce to put on the top. with onions and mushrooms, but dont forget to remember the whole family.

Me and my girlfriend made a meal for our friends based on films and TV. Each dish on the menu was from a film/show and had a quote from that film beside it eg. Apple Pie "Theres something about your first piece". We also stuck Duff lables on our Buds

call your menu "FOOD FROM AROUND THE WORLD" and have each course come from a different country.
You could have hamburgers and hotdogs from America, Pasta from Italy, and Marzipan from chocolate from Switz.
