Our planet has lots of mysterious places.
See Easter Island
The large stone statues, or moai, for which Easter Island is world famous were carved during a relatively short and intense burst of creative and productive megalithic activity. Archeologists now estimate that ceremonial site construction and statue carving took place largely between about AD 1100 and 1600 and may have consumed up to 25% of island-wide resources

The Nazca lines in Peru
The Nazca Lines are gigantic geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert, a high arid plateau that stretches 53 miles between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana in Peru. They were created by the Nazca culture between 200 BC and 600 AD. There are hundreds of individual figures, ranging in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, and lizards. The Nazca lines cannot be recognized as coherent figures except from the air. Since it is presumed the Nazca people could never have seen their work from this vantage point, there has been much speculation on the builders' abilities and motivations.

Stonehenge
Stonehenge is a Neolithic and Bronze Age megalithic monument located near Amesbury in the English county of Wiltshire, about 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. Its geographical location is 51°10′43.87″N, 1°49′35.07″W. It is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones and is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world. Archaeologists think that the standing stones were erected between 2500 BC and 2000 BC although the surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC.

Machu Picchu
Once home to a thousand Incas, this city in the Peruvian Andes lay unknown to the outside world -- thus escaping destruction by the Spanish as a pagan site -- from the 1570s until its rediscovery in 1911.

It a matter of personal choice. Laos ceased to be a mysterious country after the Vietnam War. Many think it is North Korea because it deliberately keeps it to itself and very few foreigners are allowed IN. Peter Goodspeed calls it a hermit kingdom.

I'd have to say most african and asian countries, because they arent extensive records of their history, they arent many historians or even people interested in these countries, its all about Europe..the french revolution or running with the bulls in Pamplona, and they are generally misunderstood by the world. So yeah go discover the mystery of the orient, the old Ottoman, or the black planet (i hate to call Africa that!!!)

You can pick any you want as most mysterious. Every country can have an argument made for it. Personally, I lean toward North Korea just because no one much gets in or out and their government is just plain bizarre.

Yes, I think North Korea takes the biscuit for mysteriousness. Where else has a hereditary Communist dictatorship?
