I am a US citizen and previously lived in Hawaii for 25 years (expensive, but nice) and have been living out of the country for about seven years. I'd like to come back to the States for my daughters education but am unfamiliar with the Continental States. My prime concern is cost of living in terms of accomidation, food, etc.

My question isn't worded very well. I guess I'm looking for answers that give the bennifits of where ever you live or where you would like to be living.

Probably depends upon what exactly you are looking for. My husband and I have traveled quite a bit in continental USA. We found the Carolina's to be one of the least expensive and very friendly areas. Climate is great - no really cold weather, good recreation and cultural activities. We couldn't say about schools, as we are retired snowbirds (Canadians) but consider North Carolina for sure.

As we say, "Come on home to Pennsylvania!" We even have a town called Hometown. The schools in PA are tops. The state college and university system is good, as well. I don't care to live anywhere else. The mountains and lakes are ideal for recreation. The only thing we miss is the ocean.
