god you people have no clue what "heavy metal" is AT ALL.
a good metal band would be Black Dahlia Murder or Nights Like These, Between the Buried and Me......

Well, if you want a "good" heavy metal band, the new stuff is out the window! Check out bands like Iron Maiden, Testament, AC/DC, Metallica's first 2 albums, or Suicidal Tendencies.

go back to the classics and roots...Black Sabbath...Led Zep (I don't like them much, but they are one of the legends of the form)...Deep Purple...more current, but still long-lived, I'd say Motorhead...early Metallica too...
